Franklin J. Johnson Sr.'s Obituary
Franklin J. Johnson, Sr., 83, of Fuquay-Varina, NC, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2022 at his home. His memorial service will be 4pm Sunday, June 12, 2022 at Stony Hill United Methodist Church with Pastor Kay Frye officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3pm until 4pm at the church prior to the service.
Mr. Johnson was born October 29, 1938 in Badin, NC to the late James Shellie Johnson and Lottie Harris Johnson. He graduated from Badin High School in 1957 and went on to earn a certificate from Wake Technical Community College. He worked as an Industrial Engineer for IBM in Raleigh, NC from which he retired after thirty years. Franklin enjoyed wood working, going to auctions and estate sales and enjoyed traveling and taking cruises with Carol for twenty-five years. Mr. Johnson served in the Air National Guard and was honorably discharged on August 22, 1958.
Franklin is lovingly remembered by his three children, Cynthia Anne Hoegg, Frankie J. Johnson, Jr. and Jeffery Martin Barker; ten grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren; four sisters, Juanita Geraldine Corriher of Albemarle, NC, Ophelia Prudence Blalock of Albemarle, NC, Myrtle Etta Stone of Pleasant Garden and Jane Darlene Burris of Albemarle, NC; a sister- in- law, Frances Johnson of Albemarle, NC; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Burris of Albemarle, NC; ten nieces; nine nephews and by his loving companion, Carol Sappington of twenty-six years from Maryland.
Mr. Johnson is also preceded in death by two brothers, James Harris Johnson and Robert Cornelius Johnson and wife Zelma; two sisters, Shellie Christine Hitchcock and husband Harold and Lottie Jahala Burris and two brothers-in-law, Wayne Blalock and Leonard Corriher.
