Frances Russell Plyler Smith, 77, of New London passed away Monday, January 16, 2017 in her home.? Her funeral will be 2 PM Wednesday, January 18, 2017 in the Stanly Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Keith Walters and Rev. Mike Madaris officiating.? Burial will follow in the Highland Baptist Church Cemetery.? The family will receive friends at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care on Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 PM.
Born October 9, 1939 in Stanly County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Robert Raymond Russell and Nellie Teresa Loflin Russell and retired as the Medical Records Supervisor at Bethany Woods Nursing Center.? Mrs. Smith was a member of Highland Baptist Church where she was very active throughout her life.? In the last 4 years she was also active in the Merry Widows group at Highland Baptist Church.? Mrs. Smith had also become re-involved with the Home Extension Group in the last several years.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her first husband, Dwight Jennings Plyler, in 1968 and her second husband, Joe A. Smith, in 2012.? Survivors include daughters Martha Herlocker and husband Jon of Tucson AZ, and Jenny Myers and husband Charles of Winterville, NC, sisters Doris Clark of New London and Glenda Poplin of New London, grandsons Charles Myers IV and Christopher Raymond Myers, 3 nephews and several close friends.
The family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of Stanly and the Uwharrie, 960 N. First St., Albemarle, NC 28001 or to the Merry Widows Group? C/O Highland Baptist Church, 106 Highland Dr., New London, NC 28127.
