Pickler Family,
I'm so sorry for your loss - your in my thoughts and prayers.
Even though I did not get to see him often, I have always thought of Gene as being a close friend and an admired Fraternity Brother! I have many fond memories of the times we spent at the "Pickle Jar" doing strategic planning for the Fraternity or just hanging out and enjoying each other's company. I have always considered Gene to be one of the finest men I've ever know. I had an opportunity to serve with him on the International Board of FarmHouse and found out quickly, "when Gene speaks everyone listens" because of the respect we all had for him. When we would come to the "Pickle Jar", he would always have several educational activities planned for us like visiting the oldest tree in North Carolina, visiting a tobacco farm, etc.
My prayers are with the Family! We just lost a great Brother!
Gene and I were brothers at FarmHouse Fraternity @ NCSU. We were friends and I enjoyed his humor around the house. He was a find man and I am glad my wife, Ruth found him on Facebook. I located his phone # and we had a great reunion with great memories just a few months ago. He was at the the beach at the time we talked. He was proud of his three daughters and their families. And I wish for them comfort. Ruth and I send to them our love and prayers.
MR PICKLER was a memorable professor at Pfeiffer College. In his friendly, down-to-earth style he explained economics. I had the honor and pleasure of taking is class in 1975. My sincerest condolences to his family.
In 1966 and my first summer out of high school before going off to college, I worked at Springdale Farms packing eggs. I changed my mind on colleges the week before I was to leave. I was accepted at Wingate, but there was no room in the dorm.. My parents spoke with Eugene and the next day Wingate called with a room for me. I will always remember his help and kindness.
To Eva and Audrey. Rachel, Christine, and Garrett. Love and sympathy to you all. I loved Eugene. His smile, good humor, knowledge. We shared the past together, of his dad and my grandfather. Good times.
I am the first polish student who could attend Pfeiffer University because of Gene's generosity. I met him in 1990 - I got his address from an economics professor from New Jersey who taught English in my high school then. We started exchanging letters and Gene visited us in Poland several months later. I came to the USA in 1991. I spent a wondurful year there. Gene was not only my professor at Pfeiffer but my mentor and a great friend as well. Gene had an enermous influence on my life. I will always remember his wisdom, friendliness and a great sense of humor. He contributed a lot to me, my family and many other people in Poland. I will miss him terribly. My sympathy and condolences to his daughters and their families.
I met Gene when I was Fulbright Visiting Specialist at Pfeiffer University in 2005. We had some very interesting conversations. He also invited me to his beach house at Sunset Beach and we had more interesting conversations. We met two more times, once in San Francisco when i visited the city in 2010 and two years ago when Gene came to Kuala Lumpur to visit Rachel, his grand daughter. He asked me to come back to the US to visit him and spend time with him again at his beach house. I was really looking forward to it, but that was not meant to be. I will always remember him as a very intelligent, kind, friendly, generous and open-minded man. My sympathy and condolences to his wonderful family.
Gene was an interesting and engaging professor and friend. We shared many conversations over coffee in Jane Freeman Hall. My sympathy to his wonderful family.
Gene was my friend and a proud member of Stanly investors
His input was always welcomed and valued !
