I don’t have many friends left in this world, and I just lost another one. Mickey was my sons father-in-law, but he was like a part of my family. He and Sylvia were very kind to us when we lived in Albemarle, and they invited us to many of their family functions and were so very hospitable. We shared many a meal that Mickey helped prepare and he was a fine cook.
He loved his extended family, his wife, his daughters, and doted on his grandchildren. He loved to fish and often took his grandchildren with him. He tied his own flies and had quite the collection. He also enjoyed his guns and had been a hunter most of his life.
He was proud of his service to his country and enjoyed the reunions that brought many of his shipmates together from various parts of the country.
He was an inspiration to me because of the determination with which he fought lymphoma for so many years, his strength was admirable, his determination admirable.
Stay strong Sylvia, and rest peacefully my friend. Play pretty.
