Ethel Russell Still's Obituary
Ethel Russell Still, 101, of Albemarle passed away Thursday, October 20, 2016 in CHS- Stanly.? Her funeral service will be 11 AM Tuesday, October 25 in First Baptist Church, Albemarle with Rev. Roger Thomas officiating.? Burial will follow in Fairview Memorial Park.? The family will receive friends on Monday evening at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care from 6 until 8 PM.
Born September 22, 1915 in Stanly County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Roe Shellie Russell and Patty Caudle Russell. ?She retired as the Secretary, Treasurer and Co-Owner of Still Oil Company.? She was the last surviving charter member of Second Street Presbyterian Church and attended First Baptist Church in Albemarle in her later years.
Ethel loved flowers, gardening, cooking. She is well known for her fresh coconut cake. She also loved church and reading. One of her favorite flowers, the Confederate Rose, is in full bloom now. People will remember her digging in her flowers with her garden hoe and riding on her John Deere lawn mower at the age of 100.
Mrs. Still was preceded in death by her husband H. R. ?Dink? Still in 1999.? Survivors include daughter Ellen Still Mabry (Joe) of Albemarle and granddaughter Lauren Mabry Bell (Alex) of Williamsport, MD.? She was preceded in death by six brothers John, Bill, Paul, Carl, James and Robert Russell and one sister Mable Russell.? The family wishes to express special thanks to her in-home caregivers, Vicky Taylor, Vicki Grissom, Betty Whitley, and Chris Pawlyk.
