Ethel Whaley Jennings' Obituary
Mrs. Ethel Whaley Jennings ("Granny") of Wingate, North Carolina, was called to heaven by our Lord on Thursday, April 4, 2013. She was 92 years young.
Funeral Services to Celebrate the Life of Ethel Jennings will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, April 7, 2013, at Midway Baptist Church in Wingate, officiated by Reverend Eric Cook and Reverend Perry High.
Interment will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Jennings was born on May 10, 1920, in Jonesboro, Tennessee, a daughter of the late Jacob Whaley and Fannie Mae Dunn Whaley. She was married to the late Robert Jennings, and was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Arey in 2012.
She was actively involved as a cook and hostess within the food service industry. Retirement, however, did not mean slowing down. Devoted to helping others, Granny worked tirelessly for her favorite charitable organizations, including Samaritan's Purse, the Union County Christmas Bureau, Elizabethan Gardens Nursing Home, and School Tools.
Among her hobbies, she enjoyed gardening, crocheting, quilting, cooking, and needlepoint. She was a member of the Seniors Group and the Adult Sunday School Class at Midway Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Ted Jennings (Dinah) of Pilot Mountain, NC and Bill Jennings (Bo) of Wingate,NC; five daughters, Patsy Garmon of Carrolton, GA, Jo Jackson of Monroe,NC, Gail Shreckengaust (Steve) of Midland,NC, Sandra Jennings of Peachland,NC and Debra Keziah,NC of Indian Trail; and a brother, Robert Whaley (Betty) of Johnson City, TN.
There are 21 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and expecting another in September and 1 great great granddaughter.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Davis Funeral Home, 1003 East Franklin Street.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Samaritan's Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, North Carolina, 28607 or any children's charity.
