Elaine Hlavin Alexander's Obituary
Elaine Hlavin Alexander of Albemarle passed away Friday, December 16, 2016 in her home.? Her funeral service will be 2 PM Tuesday, December 20, 2016 in the Stanly Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Yoran officiating.? Burial will follow in Stanly Gardens of Memory.? The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6 until 8 PM.
Born July 7, 1929 in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Anton J. Hlavin and Adelaide Lang Hlavin.? She was a member of Carolina Presbyterian Church in Locust.? Mrs. Alexander was a graduate of Shelton College in New York City and did graduate studies? at the University of Delaware.? She began her profession as a teacher, and while a teacher in St. Louis, she met and married David Alexander who was attending Covenant Seminary.? Mrs. Alexander spent her life working with her husband in the ministry.?? They served together in churches in Canada, North Carolina, and South Carolina with the greatest time spent at Second Street Presbyterian Church in Albemarle, NC.? She taught Sunday School, Women in the Church, and Sr. High Youth, was a choir member, participated in Vacation Bible School, and entertained visiting speakers and missionaries.? She also tutored elementary and High School students in her home for many years.
She is survived by her husband, the Reverend David Alexander, sons Dr. David Alexander of Houston, Texas, Dr. Brian Alexander and wife Sandy of Chesapeake, Virginia, grandsons Andrew Alexander and wife Sam, Christopher Alexander, and Mark Alexander and brother Andrew Joseph Hlavin of Baltimore, MD.? A brother Warren Edward Hlavin preceded her in death.
