Edward Melito's Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce that Mr. Edward "Eddie" Gray Melito, age 65, of Monroe, NC, passed away Friday, July 23, 2021 at his residence.
A time to remember and honor Eddie will take place 3:00 PM Sunday, August 1, 2021 at American Legion Post 27, 700 N. Sutherland Ave. Monroe, NC, 28110.
Eddie was born January 20, 1956, in Needham, Massachusetts, the son of the late Edward Salvadore Melito and Helen Kowalski Melito. From a young age, Eddie had the strong desire to join the military. Mr. Melito served our country through his service to the United States Air Force. During his time in active duty, he was a missile guidance and control systems specialist. The duty, honor, and sacrifice instilled in Eddie during his service remained with him throughout his life. Eddie relocated to Monroe, NC, and Union County became home to him. Commander and friend to all of American Legion Post 27, patriotism and contributing to the well-being of veterans and their families was always important to Eddie. His involvement in the community was also seen at Truth Lodge #749, where he was a former master. An Oasis Shriner, Eddie strongly believed in providing brotherly love and relief to those in need. Eddie could also be found at the beach, as he loved the ocean. When football season came around, Eddie always followed his favorite team, The New England Patriots, regardless of who played at quarterback. A man who loved his country, family, and community dearly, Eddie will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
Eddie is survived by his wife, Sherry Wilson of Monroe, NC, his son, Edward Paul "EJ" Melito of Monroe, NC, his stepsons; Randall Wilson (Paige) of Marshville, NC, and Daniel Wilson (Sonja) of Monroe, NC, his sisters; Karen Goyette (Geno), Laurie Scott (Larry), and Tina Lima(Rico), and his grandchildren; Madeline Wilson and Mitchell Wilson of Marshville, NC.
