Born September 2, 1931 in Lexington County, SC, he was the son of the late Alfred Starnes and Anne Jackson Starnes. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and the US Army and was retired as an insurance salesman with Home Beneficial Insurance Company of Charlotte. Mr. Starnes was an avid gardener and he loved spending time on Lake Tillery. He loved to sit out on the lake and watch the birds and the bees and the sycamore trees. Mr. Starnes was a very faithful man and was actively involved in church before his health declined. His belief was "absent from the body and present with the Lord." In his final days he commented that his life was a good one. He often reminisced about the good times spent with his granddaughters. His granddaughters were the light of his life.
Mr. Starnes was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy G. Starnes. Survivors include daughter Lisa Schuepp (Ralph) of Winter Springs, Florida, two granddaughter Adrienne Mayfield (Will Brown) of Norfolk, VA and Carli Mayfield of Norfolk, VA and his beloved cat Chico. He was preceded in death by two brothers Ronald and Barry Starnes.
