Douglas Arthur Poplin's Obituary
Douglas Arthur Poplin, 70, of Albemarle passed away November 24, 2021 in his home. His funeral service will be 2 PM on Sunday, November 28, 2021 at Porter Baptist Church with Rev. Flynn Richardson and Dr. Kinney Wallace officiating. Burial will follow at Porter Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 PM at the church prior to the service.
Born June 3, 1951 in Stanly County, NC he was the son of the late Roy Eljavan Poplin and Gladys Talbert Poplin. He was a lifelong member of Porter Baptist Church and was retired as a mechanic with Lum's Ford. He loved airplanes and NASCAR and enjoyed playing music. He loved farming and his tractor. Mr. Poplin also loved his church family and the Porter Community. Every year he stayed up to til midnight to ring the bell at Porter Baptist to mark the New Year. He especially loved to make people laugh.
He is survived by his wife Janelle Ross Poplin. Other survivors include daughters Carla Poplin Smith (Billy) of Norwood, Samantha Poplin Draughn (Josh) of Seattle, WA, son Douglas Roy Poplin of Norwood, sister Eloise McCowen of Alabama, 6 grandchildren Dustin Craven, Brittany Craven, Douglas Austin Poplin, Alainna Smith, Madison Smith, Gage Smith, and 2 great-grandchildren, Isabella Craven and Huntleigh Hazelwood. He was expecting two great-grandchildren Brooks Hazelwood and Silas Kligman. He was preceded in death by his first wife Donna Kay Poplin and his second wife Anne Poplin as well as two sisters Olee Bowers and Phyllis Helms and two brothers Bennett Poplin and Eljavan.
