Dorothy Ree Aiken's Obituary
Dorothy Ree Aiken passed away on November 18, 2021. Born May 13, 1936 in Rutherford County, North Carolina, she was the first child of Alexander and Myrtle Grady. Dorothy graduated from Morganton High School in 1954 and attended college at Appalachian State Teachers College and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, earning a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Science Teaching in 1965. Dorothy was married to Dr. Lewis R. Aiken, Jr. in 1956 who preceded her in death in 2004. Dorothy taught middle school math and science in Greensboro, NC and Tehran, Iran and worked as an administrative assistant at Pepperdine University Law School in Malibu, CA. After retiring, she and Lewis moved to Monroe, NC to be near her extended family.
Dorothy enjoyed shopping, reading novels, gardening, movies, playing tennis and golf, and an occasional casino gambling spree. She truly loved Christmas and giving gifts.
Dorothy is survived by son Christopher Aiken and his wife Bridget of Brentwood, Tennessee; son Timothy Aiken and his wife Michele of San Jose, California; grandchildren Sam and Max of San Jose, CA and Nicholas and Kimberly of Brentwood, TN, sister Joyce Winchester of Locust, NC, and Jacquelin N. Grady of Mint Hill, NC.
A private family gathering to celebrate the life of Dorothy Aiken will be held on Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Sharon Memorial Park. Others wishing to share remembrances may contact her sons at [email protected] and [email protected].
