Doris E. Laney's Obituary
Mrs. Doris E. Laney, age 82, of Monroe, North Carolina, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2016 at Presbyterian Hospital- Main in Charlotte, NC.
Funeral Services to celebrate the life of Doris E. Laney will be conducted at 4:00 PM Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Clarksville Campground Road, Monroe, NC 28112. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM until 4:00 PM Wednesday at the church, prior to the funeral ceremony.
Mrs. Laney was born on August 11, 1934, in Chesterfield County, South Carolina, a daughter of the late John Wesley (Johnny) McClain and the late Lillie Jowers McClain.
She was a winder with Johnson Mills, and then retired to become a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her brother Leonard McClain and her sister Margaret McClain both of Pageland, SC.
Survivors include her husband, Henry E. Laney of Monroe; her three sons, Tommy Laney (the late Jeannie), Ricky Laney (Emma) and Johnny Laney(Jackie) all of Monroe; four daughters, Judy Rollins (Freddie), Ruth King (Jr.), Brenda Love (Gary) and Sandy Griffin (Robert) all of Monroe; her six sisters Shirley Hayes, Parnell Steen, Daisy Mae McManus and Catherine McManus all of Pageland, SC, and Linda Laney, Virginia (Tootie) Craig; and her two brothers J.W. McClain and Richard McClain all of Jefferson, SC. There are twenty-two grandchildren, forty-three great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
