Donald "Gum" C. Montgomery's Obituary
Mr. Donald "Gum" C. Montgomery, age 66, of Monroe, NC, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at the Monroe Rehabilitation Center.
A Graveside Service honoring Donald's life will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Lakeland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends prior to the service in the Dogwood Room at Davis Funeral Service, 1003 East Franklin Street, Monroe, NC, 28112.
Donald was born June 20, 1952, in Matthews, North Carolina, the son of the late Mattie Lee Montgomery. Donald served his country through his service to the U.S. Army, and received the National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter Badge, and Expert Grenade badge during his time in Vietnam. Upon returning to North Carolina, Donald enjoyed a long career in the steel industry, including over 15 years of service with Square D as a welder. He is lovingly remembered by his family as a man of integrity who unconditionally loved his children and grandchildren. A die hard Carolina Tar Heels fan, Donald appreciated the simple joys in life, and never made a promise he couldn't keep.
Donald is survived by his three daughters; Tonia Huntley and husband Corey of Raleigh, NC, Alexis Scott and husband Raymond of Greenville, MS, and Shadé Montgomery of Matthews, NC. Survivors also include a brother, James Montgomery and wife Elaine of VA, a brother, Cecil Evans Montgomery and wife Eva of Monroe, NC, a sister, Diane Cureton of Charlotte, NC, a sister, J. Lynn Buchanon of Monroe, NC, two favorite aunts; Mary Henry and Doris Montgomery, of Charlotte, NC, and six grandchildren.
