Donald Eugene Fine's Obituary
Donald Eugene Fine, 76 of Denton died Friday 19 August at home after a seven year battle with Myelofibrosis.
Services to include internment will be held at a later date and the family is receiving friends and relatives privately at the home.
Born in Albemarle NC on 25 October 1945, the eldest son of Foy Thurman and Johnnie Mae (nee McIntyre) Fine, he graduated from Denton High School in 1965 and subsequently served in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1970. A member of Clear Springs United Methodist Church and the Denton Masonic Lodge #404, he retired from J. T. Ryerson and Sons in Charlotte NC.
As a young man he was an avid hunter and later in life his primary hobby was the restoration of a 1956 Chevrolet.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Elaine Stevens. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Martha S. (nee Surratt), children Eugene Fine of Denton, Julianna (Chance) Parrish of Denton, and Benjamin (Mor) of Greensboro, grandchildren Christopher Parrish, Sinclair Fine, Louisa-Kathleen Parrish, Ella Fine, Don Fine and Jonathan Fine. Additionally, he is survived by a brother Stephen Fine of New London, NC and a loyal and dear nephew Charles (Chuck) Linker of Cleveland NC.
The family would like express it’s appreciation to Joy Gilley and her staff at the Thomasville Medical Center for his care over the years and to Susie Bowers for her compassionate and skilled care during the acute phase his illness. Memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or to the NC Masonic Children’s Home in Oxford NC.
