Diane West's Obituary
Mrs. Diane Helms West, age 72, of Wingate, NC, passed away on Monday, May 3, 2021 at Atrium Union.
Graveside Visitation to honor Diane's life will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2021 from 2:00 - 3:30 PM at the Fairfield Community Baptist Church Cemetery, 3129 NC-205, Marshville, NC, 28103. A private graveside service will be held for the family.
Mrs. Diane Helms West was born on May 15, 1948 in Union County, NC, a daughter of the late Lawrence Helms and Evelyn Thomason Helms. Diane was a quiet person who loved life and was a faithful servant to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. At the age of ten, she committed her life to Christ and lived each and every day by example. She obtained an Associate degree in Business as well as her Beautician and Cosmetology degree. Diane spent her career working as a retail clerk for various companies including head Cosmetician at Eckerd, opening in 1968, and 27 years with JC Penny as a display coordinator and clerk. After retiring, she loved to spend time working outside in her gardens and admiring all of God's creations. She also loved to paint, cross stitch and make homemade gifts for birthdays and holidays. Diane was a devoted and loving wife to her husband of over 50 years, Kenn West; a mother and grandmother whose life revolved around her son, her dog Toby, her grandchildren and great-grandson. She was always concerned about their wellbeing and was never too tired to ask "Have you eaten?" and cook up a delicious meal. Diane expressed her love of family daily and always ensured she hugged them and said I love you. The mark Diane made on this earth through her devotion to Christ, her love of family, and caring personality will be cherished by her family and friends forever.
Those left to treasure Diane's memory include her loving husband, Kenn West; her son, Robby West; her four grandchildren: Jax West, Trent West, Josh West (Bianca) and Sarah Grace West; her great-grandson Bentley West; and her beloved Shih tzu, Toby. Survivors also include her sister, Harriet Smith; her brother, Kenneth D. Helms (Betsy); her niece, Allison Gordon; and her three nephews, Larry B. Smith Jr., David Helms, and Greg Helms.
In addition to her parents, Diane was preceded in death by her son, Kenny West.
