Darrell Lewis Burgess' Obituary
Darrell Lewis Burgess, 70, of Oakboro, NC passed away Thursday October 8, 2020 at his home. His memorial graveside service will be 11 AM Saturday October 10, 2020 at Smith?s Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Burgess was born April 7, 1950 in Stanly County, NC and was the son of Margaret Allen Burgess and the late Claude Burgess. He was a retired Captain and K-9 officer with the Stanly County Sheriff?s Office with twenty six years of service. Darrell worked as an EMT with the Stanly County EMS for eleven years and thirty years with the Stanly County Rescue Squad. Mr. Burgess was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church. He was a member of several organizations including, the North Carolina Police Dog Association, National Police Work Dog Association, North Carolina K-9 Emergency Response Team and the Woodman of the World VP of Central Region of NC. Darrell was a farmer his entire life, loving his two cows and his two sidekicks, Rocketman and Sally. Mr. Burgess received the prestigious Order of the Longleaf Pine, the highest civilian honor that the State of NC can bestow.
Darrell is survived by his children, Tammy Burgess Stickney of Waxhaw, NC, Scotty Burgess of the home and Travis Burgess (Chris) of Fort Mill, SC; grandchildren, Mason Stickney and Riley Stickney; brother John Burgess (Pam); and sisters Jean Little, Carolyn Carpenter (James) and Judy Hinson.
