Curtis Garfield Ragsdale, Sr's Obituary
Curtis Ragsdale, Sr, 91 of Albemarle, passed away Thursday, June 22, 2023 in Woodhaven Court, Albemarle, NC. His funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, June 24, 2023 in the Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care Chapel of Albemarle with Pastor Ben Floyd officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Memorial Park with both Military Honors and Masonic Graveside Rite by Stanly Lodge #348 A. F. and A. M. The family will receive friends on Saturday at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care from 1 until 2 PM prior to the funeral service.
Mr. Ragsdale was born February 21, 1932, to the late Tero Wesley Ragsdale and Gurtha Faulkner Ragsdale. He graduated in 1950 from Albemarle High School and from Kings College in 1958 with a degree in Business Administration. Curtis was a Veteran of the United States Navy, serving from 1950-1958, as a 2nd Class Petty Officer and he served in the Korean Conflict. He retired from Metal Forge in Albemarle. Mr. Ragsdale was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church since 1978.
Curtis served on the Albemarle Zoning Board of Adjustments from 1968-1975 and on the Albemarle Planning and Zoning Board from 2012-2016. He was a past Secretary and President of the Civitans in Albemarle. Mr. Ragsdale was a 50-year Shriner and served as Secretary and President and was named Shriner of the Year in 1966. He was a member of Stanly Lodge #348 A. F. & A. M. for 50 years and was a 32nd degree Mason. Curtis developed Wesley Heights subdivision and he loved the Atlanta Braves, North Carolina Tarheels, Carolina Panthers and the Washington Redskins.
Mr. Ragsdale is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Jo Anne Ward Ragsdale, sons Curtis G. Ragsdale Jr. and wife Staci of Albemarle and Christopher T. Ragsdale and wife Lisa of Sylva, NC, and 2 grandchildren Brandon Ragsdale and wife Alexis of Albemarle and Madison Ragsdale of Albemarle.
