Cletis Ella Mae Stephens Thomas' Obituary
Cletis Ella Mae Stephens Thomas, 92, of Waxhaw, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, September 1, 2025.. A graveside service to honor her life will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Siler Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Wesley Chapel, with Rev. Dr. Chris Baucom officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Davis Chapel.
Born on July 1, 1933, in Union County, NC, Cletis was the daughter of the late Clarence Eugene Stephens and Lue Ella Fincannon Stephens. She dedicated her life to caring for others, working as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Sharon Towers in Charlotte until her retirement. She was a member of Siler Presbyterian Church and an active participant in the Women's Club of Waxhaw, where she built lasting friendships.
Cletis was known for her warm heart, strong will, and unwavering love for her family. She had a gift for music and enjoyed playing the piano, often filling her home with joyful melodies. She also loved crocheting and creating handmade treasures for her loved ones. On weekends, she frequently hosted "singings" at her home, welcoming friends and family to gather, laugh, and share fellowship.
To her family, Cletis was more than a mother and grandmother - she was their matriarch, their source of strength, and the one they all turned to for guidance and comfort. Her faith was at the center of her life, and she often reminded everyone of her favorite words: "Praise Jesus." Her legacy of love, devotion, and kindness will live on through the generations she leaves behind.
She is survived by her son, Ernest Crowley of Waxhaw; her grandsons, Christopher Crowley and wife Lee of York, SC, and Steve Crowley and wife Niki of Concord; as well as six great-grandchildren who brought her endless joy. She was preceded in death by two children, George Crowley Jr. and Cletis Ann Crowley, along with six brothers and one sister.
Cletis's life was a beautiful example of faith, family, and friendship, and she will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her.
