Born on June 22, 1927, in Bluefield, West Virginia, Clara was the daughter of the late Alexander Washington Lawson and Etta Haynes Lawson. A devoted homemaker, she dedicated her life to caring for her family and creating a warm and welcoming home filled with love.
Clara will be remembered for her spirited personality, quick wit, and unwavering honesty. She was truly an independent firecracker who always spoke her mind and never met a stranger. She loved visiting with friends, striking up conversations wherever she went, and cherished every opportunity to spend time with her family.
A gifted seamstress and talented quilter, Clara lovingly created countless quilts that will continue to wrap her family in both warmth and treasured memories for generations to come. She also enjoyed sewing curtains and pillows, taking pride in making her house a comfortable and beautiful home. Although she preferred the comforts of home, she always looked forward to an outing for a good meal—especially if it meant a trip to Captain D's, her favorite restaurant.
Clara found joy in life's simple pleasures, including listening to classic country music and watching her favorite westerns. Her strong spirit, loving heart, and unmistakable sense of humor left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
In addition to her parents, Clara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul Mabe; her son, Rex Mabe; and her daughter, Susie Starnes.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Sarah Richardson of Pageland and Jane Dixon and her husband, Garvie, of Mount Airy; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends who will forever treasure the love, laughter, and countless memories she shared.
Though Clara's presence will be deeply missed, her legacy of strength, laughter, and unconditional love will continue to live on in the hearts of her family. The quilts she lovingly stitched and the memories she created will remain lasting reminders of a life beautifully lived and a woman deeply loved.
