Clara Barnes Elrod's Obituary
Clara Jeanette Barnes Elrod, 80, of Albemarle, NC passed away Thursday December 29, 2016 at Hospice of Union County in Monroe, NC. Her funeral will be Monday, January 2, at 2 PM at Welcome Baptist Church in Albemarle with Rev. Allen Reid officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Antioch Baptist Church cemetery in Richfield. The family will receive friends from 6 till 8 PM on Sunday evening at Stanly Funeral & Cremation Care.
Born October 7, 1936 in Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Sanford Barnes and Irene Russell Barnes. Clara worked as a spinner in the Clotmans Cotton Mill in Denton, NC and was a member of Welcome Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing piano as well as reading.
Clara is survived by two sons, Stephen and wife Tracy Basinger of Midland and Dave Basinger of Albemarle, one brother, Johnny Barnes of Albemarle, and five grandchildren, Benjamin, Jordan, Nathan, and Tessa Basinger and Heather Sides. Clara is preceded in death by one daughter, Beth Sides, and one brother, Bobby Barnes.
