Charles Ray Blalock's Obituary
Charles Ray Blalock, 76, of Richfield, passed away peacefully at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington, NC on January 29, 2024, surrounded by family. He was born on November 4, 1947, at the Stanly County Hospital in Albemarle, NC. Charles Ray was the son of the late George Burris Blalock and the late Gladys Barringer Blalock Crawley. He was the stepson of the late Arthur Eugene “Gene” Crawley.
Charles Ray is survived by his brothers Harold Blalock (Sherry) of Oakboro, Sam Blalock (Angela) of Albemarle, and sister Brenda Blalock Misenheimer (Berk) of Richfield; his aunts Faye Gathings of Wadesboro and Marie Barringer Eller of Albemarle, and his uncle Zeb Barringer of Lexington.
Affectionately known as “Uncle Charlie,” Charles Ray is survived by his nieces and nephews that he adored. Survivors include Jonathan Misenheimer (Renee), George Blalock, Tommy Blalock (Jennie), Brian Blalock, Heather Misenheimer (Derrick Crump), Nicholas Blalock (Tracy), and Kara Roberson (Scott).
Uncle Charlie is also survived by his great nieces and nephews, Autumn, Zachary, and Keegan Misenheimer; Bishop and Elliott Blalock; Aden Blalock; and Georgia and Scarlet Roberson.
Charles Ray was a lifelong and faithful member of New Mt Tabor UMC. He would occasionally be caught napping during the service, but he would say that is when he listened the best. He was also very active in his Adult Sunday School Class where he participated in many discussions. Charles Ray was passionate about the Bible and knew it better than most pastors.
Charles Ray loved cars and horses. He raised many horses throughout the years and enjoyed letting his nieces and nephews ride them when they were children. He also enjoyed photography as a hobby.
Charles Ray was a graduate of Pembroke State University (now UNC Pembroke). He retired from Americhem, Inc.
The funeral is scheduled for Thursday 3PM at New Mt Tabor UMC in Richfield, where he will be laid to rest. Rev. Cindy Furr will be officiating. Visitation will immediately be following the service in the Fellowship Hall. Memorials may be made to New Mt Tabor UMC Building Fund c/o Wanda Brooks, 40573 Millingport Rd, Richfield, NC 28137.
