Carolyn Estridge Efird's Obituary
Carolyn Estridge Efird, 84, of Locust, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Novant Health Mint Hill Medical Center.
A graveside service will be held at Carolina Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at 10 AM.
Born on August 27, 1941, in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, Carolyn was the daughter of the late Johnny Wesley Estridge and Ruth Mabel Phillips Estridge. She was a faithful member of Trinity Reformed Presbyterian Church and devoted many years of service as a cafeteria worker at Clear Creek Elementary School, where she enjoyed caring for generations of students.
Above all, Carolyn treasured her family and her faith. She was known as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose life reflected loyalty, faithfulness, and a servant's heart. She was deeply committed to her church and willingly gave of herself wherever she was needed. Those who knew her best will remember her determined spirit, her thriftiness, and her fierce independence. She delighted in caring for her family and especially cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, never missing an opportunity to spoil them or show them how much they were loved.
Carolyn found joy in life's simple pleasures. She enjoyed shopping, searching for treasures at yard sales, having her nails done, camping, and spending time at the beach. She lovingly cared for her husband throughout their many years together, and those closest to them will fondly remember the playful way she would "fuss" at him-a reflection of the deep love and devotion they shared. Music was also a special part of her faith, and among the many hymns she loved, It Is Well with My Soul held a special place in her heart.
Carolyn is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, James Efird; her children, Jackie Davis (Scott) of Locust, Scott Efird (Tracy) of Locust, and Rusty Efird (Suzanne) of Locust; five grandchildren, Michael Efird, Wesley Efird, Autumn LaRock, Shane Efird, and Beau Efird; ten great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Efird, her sister, Pat Little, and her beloved granddaughter, Kerri Efird.
Carolyn's legacy is one of steadfast faith, unwavering love for her family, and quiet service to others. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
