Carolyn Smith Dunn, 78, of Albemarle, peacefully passed away at her home on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at Hillside Baptist Church, with Rev. Mike Rinehardt officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 2:45 PM in the church sanctuary prior to the service.
Born on April 13, 1947, in Stanly County, NC, Carolyn was the daughter of the late Rev. Curtis Henry Smith and Lois Honeycutt Smith. A faithful member of Hillside Baptist Church, Carolyn was known for her strong faith, her heart for prayer, and her deep love for the Lord. She possessed a beautiful singing voice, a generous spirit, and an unshakable devotion to her family.
Carolyn worked for many years as a waitress at Hal's Restaurant, where her incredible memory and warm demeanor left a lasting impression-she could recall not only names, but favorite meals of longtime customers. She also served others as a compassionate caregiver later in life.
To those who knew her, Carolyn was more than a mother-she was a counselor, encourager, and friend. Her children lovingly remember her as beautiful, precious, and wise. She gave selflessly to anyone in need, embodying the very spirit of kindness and grace. She was a devoted daughter and sister, and her love for her children and grandchildren knew no bounds.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Leon Dunn, in 2023.
She is survived by her children: Lisa Bowers and husband Marty of New London, Mark Dunn and wife Candace of Albemarle, and Stacy Dunn of New London; brothers Sherill Smith and wife Denise of New London, and Mitchell Smith of Albemarle; nine grandchildren: Dustin Bowers, Brittany Bowers, Layne Parker, Colby Dunn, Dakota King, Hailey Steen, Corrie Steen, Kari Steen, and R.J. Beheler; and eight great-grandchildren.
Carolyn's legacy of faith, family, and love will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
