Bonnie Sykes' Obituary
Mrs. Bonnie Helms Sykes, age 70, of Monroe, North Carolina, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2016, at McWhorter Hospice House in Monroe, NC.
Memorial Services to celebrate her life will be conducted at 4:00 PM Sunday, June 26, 2016, at Davis Funeral Chapel, 1003 East Franklin Street, Monroe, NC, 28112, officiated by Reverend Mike Whitson.
Mrs. Sykes was born on September 28, 1945, in Union County, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Horace Neal Helms, Sr. and Fairy Goodman Helms.
Bonnie was a former supervisor for the Federal Reserve Bank, also worked with the UCB Bank Processing Center, was a substitute teacher for 20 years with the UCPS system, and lastly, was a nanny and caregiver for 20 years.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Sykes of Monroe; two sons, Chris Sykes (Michelle) of Franklinton, NC, and Kenny Sykes of Franklinton, NC; a daughter, Melony Cordero of Charlotte, NC; two grandsons, Christian Sykes of Franklinton, NC and Ty Higginbotham of Wake Forest, NC; three granddaughters, Alexandra Cordero of Monroe, NC, Madelyn Cordero of Monroe, NC and Kylie Sykes of Franklinton, NC; a great granddaughter, Sophia Rhyne of Monroe, NC; two brothers, Neal Helms of Monroe, NC, and David Helms of Monroe, NC; two sisters, Nancy Burnette of Indian Trail, NC and Julia McCraney of Indian Trail, NC.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 3:45 PM, prior to the ceremony on Sunday at Davis Funeral Home.
