Betty Jean Whitley's Obituary
Betty Jean Whitley, 82, of Albemarle, died Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at Carolina?s Medical Center NorthEast. Her funeral will be Friday, November 20 at 1 PM at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Dr. Wayne Bennett officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the graveside service in the church fellowship hall. The body will lie in state at the church from 12:15 PM to 1 PM.
Born September 19, 1933 in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Luther Barbee and Elizabeth ?Lizzie? Smith Barbee. Betty was member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where she was very active. She loved her church family, the senior adult club, and watching General Hospital.
She is preceded in death by her husband Vance Clyde Whitley and one sister Ramelle Hinson. Survivors include two sons, Chuck Whitley of Albemarle, and Eddie Whitley (Starla) of Oakboro, one brother Jerry Barbee (Libby) of Albemarle, one sister, Lucille ?Tink? Bagley (Glenn) of Goldsboro, NC, two grandchildren, Cade and Tess Whitley, and numerous nieces and nephews.
