Betty Lou Starnes' Obituary
Mrs. Betty Lou Hinson Starnes, age 86, of Waxhaw, North Carolina, passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at the McWhorter Hospice House of Union County.
Funeral Services to Celebrate the Life of Betty Hinson Starnes will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, May 9, 2015, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, of which she was a member for over 65 years, officiated by Reverend Renee Easter.
Interment will follow in the Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Betty was born on March 20, 1929, to Commodore (CP) Hinson and Beulah Sims Hinson of the Prospect community.
In 1948, she married Kenneth Folger Starnes, Sr., celebrating almost 51 years of marriage until his death in 1999. Together they owned and operated Starnes Dairy Farm for many years.
Kenneth and Betty enjoyed Western square dancing, playing card games with their friends, including Betty's hobbies of cooking, canning, gardening and quilting.
She was a member of the Witness and Service morning circle and the quilters group.
In addition to her husband and parents, Betty was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Deloris Hildreth Starnes, three sisters, Nell Cook, Kathleen Flow and Pennie Hinson, and three brothers, Coleman Hinson, Jeff Hinson, and Toolie Hinson.
Betty is survived by one son, Kenneth (Kenny) Folger Starnes Jr. of Waxhaw, and a daughter and son-in-law, Dinah and Ted Jennings of Pilot Mountain, NC, four grandchildren, Dean Jennings (Brandy) of Wingate, Wendell Jennings (Renea) of Pilot Mountain, Trish Poplin Mical (John Goodwin) of Morven, and Cheryl Poplin Yannett (Steve) of Waxhaw, eight great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren, five sister-in-laws, Audrey Tyson, Loma Tyson, Betty Lou Mosley, Gloria Price and Joyce Hinson.
The family would like to thank White Oak of Waxhaw, CMC-Union and the McWhorter Hospice House for their special care, love and dedication.
The family will receive friends Friday, May 8, 2015 from 6pm until 8pm at Davis Funeral Home of Monroe.
