Betty Lou Still Harrington's Obituary
Mrs. Betty Lou Still Harrington, age 93, of Albemarle, passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 surrounded by her children.
Betty Lou was born on March 1, 1930 to the late William Allen Still and Lilly Rowe Thompson Still. She graduated from Albemarle High School in 1948 where she was captain of the ladies basketball team and participated in the Drama Club and the Choir. She married her high school sweetheart, Gene Harrington, on January 29, 1949. They enjoyed a long life together until his death in 2017 after 68 years of marriage. Betty Lou was employed by the City of Albemarle for 34 years, retiring as a Data Processing Clerk. She was a Charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She loved to cook and to bake, especially for her family. During "covered dish" lunches it seemed that she attempted to feed the entire church.
Betty Lou was predeceased by her parents and husband, Gene. Betty Lou was the youngest of 14 and the last living sibling. She was also predeceased by 6 brothers and 7 sisters; and son-in-law Eddie Osborn, in addition to twin sons; Douglas Allan and Donald Benton Harrington.
She is survived by daughter, Betsy Osborn Lynch and husband Bob; and sons Myron Harrington and wife, Andrea; and Steve Harrington and wife, Bebe. Betty Lou was a very proud grandmother of ten grandchildren: Jon Osborn (Adrienne), Bethany Osborn Weber (Steven), Amanda Osborn Hathcock (Jeremy), Will Harrington, (Ashley), Paige Harrington, Claire Harrington Church (Weston), Jeffrey Harrington, (Rachel), Bradley Harrington (Kelly), Ashley Patrick, (Brett), and Wesleigh Harrington Little (Joey). Betty Lou is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren: Mallory and Savannah Osborn; Lucy, Grayson and Jonah Hathcock; Bryce, Blake and Isaac Weber, Rhett and Beau Harrington, Lark and Zeb Church, and Lyla Patrick. In addition, Betty Lou will be remembered by many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church at 1804 Badin Road in Albemarle, North Carolina, conducted by Rev. Doug Petersen and Rev. Lee Shelnutt on Monday, September 18 at 11:00am. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00am - 11:00am. Graveside rites will be held following the funeral service at Fairview Memorial Park.
The family would like to express special thanks to Adlay Wilson who provided loving care for over 5 years while Betty Lou was at home. And to Anne Kersey, Cheryl Aldridge and Beth Barger who also took care of Betty Lou and made it possible for her to remain at her home. Another thank you to the nursing staff of the Cottage at Spring Arbor for their labor of love for Betty Lou over the last six months and to Gentiva Hospice Care.
