Betty June Pennington Mason's Obituary
Betty June Pennington Mason, 93, of Albemarle, passed away Monday, May 22, 2023 at the Hospice House of Union County. Her funeral service will be 1pm Friday, May 26, 2023 at Lakeview Baptist Church with Rev. Tab Whitley officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11am until 12:30pm prior to the service at the church.
She was born August 31, 1929 in Rowan to the late Odom Lee Pennington and Mellie Gudger Pennington. Betty retired from Albemarle Spinning Mills after fifty plus years. She was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church, where she formerly kept the nursey, church record keeper, sang in the choir for many years and worked with the food ministry. Betty loved playing BINGO and enjoyed traveling to the beach with her friends, Helen Hinson, Louise Almond, Darlene Burleson and Janette Almond. She was always ready to help folks with whatever they needed.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Mason. She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Smith (Michael) of Albemarle; four grandsons, Matthew Smith, Kodi Smith (Sydney), Logan Smith and Rylei Smith all of Albemarle and two great-grandchildren, Cadence Smith and Adelyn Smith. Betty was also preceded in death by a brother, Edward Dwayne Pennington and a sister, Martha Ann Pennington Shuford.
