Betty Bowers Hartley's Obituary
Betty Bowers Hartley, age 91, passed away June 22, 2022, at Trinity Place in
Albemarle. A celebration of life service will be scheduled for a later date.
Betty was born August 16, 1930, in Albemarle to the late Erie Franklin (E.F.) Bowers
and Myrtle Whitley Bowers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by
her husband, Robert Hayward Hartley, sisters, Jacqueline Harward of Ohio, Helen
Baugess of Charlotte and brother, Larry Bowers of Albemarle.
Betty attended Albemarle public schools and was a proud member of the AHS Class of
1948. After high school, she attended Duke University where she met her future
husband on a blind date. Betty was an active member of First Baptist Church of
Albemarle for many years, where she enjoyed participating in many activities including
the JOY Group. Betty enjoyed traveling, was an avid reader and loved to tell family
stories.
She is survived by daughter Leigh Hartley-Carpenter of Albemarle and stepdaughter
Laurie Hartley of Ruskin, FL and numerous extended family.
The family would like to thank Trinity Place for their outstanding care of Betty during her
declining health.
