Bessie Marie Poplin Burris' Obituary
Bessie Marie Poplin Burris, 89, of Albemarle passed away on Friday, November 12, 2021 at Trinity Place in Albemarle. A celebration of life service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, November 20, 2021 in the Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care Chapel officiated by Rev. Tab Whitley.
Mrs. Burris was born April 7, 1932 in Stanly County to the late Frank Poplin and Vergie Harris Poplin. She taught Sunday School for over 60 years, previous choir director, and was a lifetime member at Lakeview Baptist Church. Mrs. Burris enjoyed sewing, babysitting, and was famous for her chicken and dumplings. She was a mentor to many, and she touched so many lives along her journey on earth. Bessie was also an avid North Carolina Tar Heels fan.
Bessie is survived by her sons: James Alan Burris (Gail) of New London, Ricky Joe Burris of Albemarle; grandchildren: Kimberly Bradley (Scott) of Richfield, Wesley Burris (Sara) of Austin, TX, Meredith Sawyer (Timothy) of Albemarle, Rikki Jo Burris of Albemarle; great-grandchildren: Lauren Caviness (Dusty), Kalyn Luther (Daniel), Mary Grace Caudle, Scott Burris, Jordan Burris, Kyle Sawyer, and Jacob Goodman; great-great-grandchildren: Elias Caviness, Enoch Caviness, Elyn Caviness, Jackson Luther; sister: Frances Hathcock of Albemarle. She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years: Bobby James Burris; son: Jeffrey Lynn Burris; and her brother: Richard Poplin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Burris Scholarship Fund at Lakeview Baptist Church, 32496 Pennington Rd. Albemarle, NC 28001 or to Hospice of Stanly & the Uwharrie at 960 N First Street, Albemarle, NC 28001.
