Barbara Ethel Finney's Obituary
Barbara Ethel Finney, 69, of Albemarle, NC passed away on Friday, February 25, 2022 at her home. Visitation will be held from 1-3 PM on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care in Albemarle. A private burial will follow.
Barbara was born July 17, 1952 in Houston, TX to the late Henry Ivan Lewter and Willie Belle Lewter. After retiring, she returned to college and earned an Associate of Arts degree from Stanly Community College and was attending UNC at Charlotte to complete her bachelor’s degree in English. Barbara was active in local bands, choirs, and theater groups. Some of her more popular roles were: The Bird Woman in Mary Poppins, Mrs. Patty in Curious Savage, and Helga in Nightwatch. Her primary musical instrument was the flute. She was an expert genealogist, a writer, a martial artist, a ufologist, and an accomplished equestrian.
Barbara is survived by her loving family: childhood friend and husband of 44 years Michael Lee Finney; her two daughters Gwendolyn Saible Dawn O'Reilly and husband Samuel Elliott O'Reilly of Madison, WI and Rhianna Aurian Liron Finney of Albemarle, NC; and her grandchildren Emily Heather Dawn van Gulik, Sarah Elisabeth van Gulik, and Maxwell Daemon van Gulik. She is preceded in death by her brother Henry Ivan Lewter, Jr. She will be missed by all and sundry.
