Annie Belle Shankle's Obituary
March 11, 1927- August 16, 2020
Annie Belle Shankle (nee Eddins) 93 years old departed this life for her well-earned heavenly home on Sunday, August 16, 2020, as a result of COVID 19 pneumonia.
Annie Belle was predeceased by her parents, Effie Hutchinson Eddins and John S. Eddins of Norwood. She was the longest living sibling of all her brothers and sisters: Herbert, Walter Lee, J.T. Bud, Jerry, and Vernon; Mabel, Beth, Elizabeth and infant twin sisters Lorene and Lois. She was also predeceased by her sons Stan and Kenneth.
She was married to Willie ?Doc? Shankle for 53 years prior to his passing in 2006. Annie Belle was very proud of her work with Doc in his cabinet making business, where she often helped him produce cabinets, benches and other fine woodworking. Annie Belle and Doc were members of Anderson Grove Baptist Church since they were married. She was an active participant in the church life and served in multiple capacities, including as church secretary for many years.
Annie Belle was first employed at the Norwood C&A prior to her marriage. She was later employed with Albemarle City Schools for many years and often told her favorite stories of meeting students and working with the cafeteria staff, many who became life long friends.
Annie Belle is survived by her son David who has loved and cared for his mother in the last several years as well as her precious dog Tabby. In addition, she is survived by a host of favorite nieces and nephews, friends, and church family. Family and friends were always welcomed into their home. Thanksgivings were a particularly wonderful time for the Eddins? gatherings. All of us will remember the chicken and dumplings, fresh corn and green beans, and pecan pies that she so lovingly made for many occasions.
The family would like to thank Melva Watkins for her devotion to ?Miss Ann? over the last several years, taking her for rides to Morrow Mountain, Badin Lake, tours of local towns and to visit friends. They were also known to enjoy a dinner out, whenever they could. We would also like to thank Trinity Place for their loving care over the last year. And, though only for 6 days, we are grateful to the ICU staff at Atrium Health?s Carolinas Medical Center for their excellent medical care and unsurpassed nursing care which was filled with state-of-the-art interventions and compassion.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 21 at 2p.m. at Anderson Grove Baptist Church in Albemarle, NC with the Reverend Ron Honeycutt officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery following the service. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6pm until 8pm at the funeral home. Out of respect for all, the family requests that you wear a mask and practice social distancing during the services. We understand if you are unable to attend with these guidelines in place.
