Sylvia Burke entered the gates of heaven on September 16, 2021 after a long battle with cancer and short battle with COVID. She was a warrior and beat the odds so many times when the doctors said she would not survive. Her strong faith kept her going. She was born August 16, 1935 to the late William and Beulah Hitch in Jacksonville, NC. She married Stony Burleson in 1954 and they had three daughters. She was preceded in death by her loving husband in 1970, her eldest daughter, Stephanie in 2014, and many brothers and sisters. She loved being involved in the church and was a part of the choir, ladies circle, and participated in numerous church activities. She was always very artistic with ceramics, needlepoint, cross-stitch and sewing and making beautiful and unique Christmas ornaments. Her grandchildren, Alexandra, Lee, and Danielle were the light of her life. She cherished every moment she was able to spend with them. She was able to celebrate her 86th birthday with all of her family by her side last month. She is survived by her daughters Cheryl Burleson-Davis of Charlotte and Alison Cline (Rudy) of Ocean Shores, WA, her three grandchildren, Alexandra Cline Ewell (Zahran) of Marysville, WA, Danielle Davis, and Lee Davis of Charlotte, her brother, Robert Hitch of Jacksonville, NC and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced In lieu of flowers, donations to the music fund for Sharon Presbyterian would be greatly appreciated.
