Harold Edward Greene, 82, of Locust, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2020. Harold was born November 6, 1938 in Union County to the late Wriston and Bessie Greene of Fairview and has surviving siblings Jane Penegar, Laraine Russell, Darice Greene, Dwain Greene, and Candace Phillips. Harold was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Tucker Greene, wife Audrey Russell, brother Frank Greene and greatgrandson Silas Deason. Harold was previously married to Barbara Tucker Greene of Locust, NC and together they had three children; Lisa Morgan and husband Bill of Stanfield, Lori Greene Keziah and husband Doug of Monroe, and Levi Greene and wife Dee of Stanfield. Later in life, Harold married Audrey Russell and inherited four stepchildren. In addition to his children, Harold leaves behind nine grandchildren; Lauren Deason, Joshua Deason & wife Brittany, Landon Keziah & wife Cheryl, Cameron Keziah, Chloe Keziah, Charity Keziah, Bridgette Greene, Sean Greene and Anson Greene; seven great grandchildren; Dallas Allen, Jaelyne Deason, Kamley Mortensen, Hadley Keziah, Ella Blake Keziah, Holland Deason and Camden Deason; many friends , relatives, and brothers and sisters in Christ. Harold worked as an autobody repair technician and business owner for 40 years. He operated his own autobody shop in Locust and worked in dealerships in Charlotte, Monroe, Wadesboro, Kannapolis, and Albemarle throughout his career. Harold also worked for several years as a volunteer EMT in Locust as part of what would eventually become West Stanly EMS. Harold?s sense of community and care for his fellow man led him to donate over 50 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross from an early age and he continued until he became physically unfit to do so in his later years. From 2003 to 2009, Harold served three consecutive terms as mayor ofLocust, NC. During this period, Locust experienced unprecedented growth with the addition of several housing communities, Red Bridge Golf Course, Wal-Mart, and Chicago Tube and Iron. Harold worked to develop a new land plan for future growth, helping the city rebound from the widening of highway NC24/27 which effectively destroyed the heart of Locust?s legacy commercial center. This work paved the way for building the new Locust Town Center. Locust was brought under sound financial management, received grant funding for the new city park, Officer Jeff Shelton Memorial, baseball fields, tennis courts, soccer and football fields. USDA funding wassecured to build a new City Hall, library, and community room as well. Harold was a member of Community Church in Locust. In the past, he was a charter member of Carolina Presbyterian Church in Locust, and a charter member of Harmony Baptist Church in Stanfield. Harold served as a Sunday School Teacher, Youth Leader, lay pastor, and deacon. In the early 1980s, Harold pastored Maranatha Baptist, an inner city ministry in Monroe, NC. He worked tirelessly operating bus routes and spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ to underserved communities. Harold led numerous people into a relationship with Jesus Christ including several of hisfamily members.The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 3:00 pm, on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Community Baptist Church in Locust. The funeral service officiated by Pastors Landon Keziah and Scott Faw will be held on Thursday, December 17, 2020, at 3:00 pm, at Community Baptist Church, 818 N Central Avenue in Locust, NC. Burial will follow at the Community Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Greene's funeral service will also be live streamed through Stanly Funeral Homes Facebook page for those who can't attend.
