Willie “Bill”D. Lawhon, Sr., 84, of 100 Creek Ridge Circle, Albemarle, passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2009 at StanlyRegionalMedicalCenter in Albemarle, NC. His funeral will be at 4:00 PM on Sunday, August 16th, 2009 at SouthAlbemarleBaptistChurch. His family will receive friends at the South Albemarle Baptist Church Fellowship Hall on Sunday afternoon from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM prior to the hour of the service. At other hours the family will be at the home of son, Billy Lawhon, 49295 Swift Water Road, Albemarle, NC. Rev. Jesse Dennis will officiate and burial will be in FairviewMemorial Park with full military graveside rites conducted by the Stanly County DAV Ritual Team.
Born March 5th, 1925 in Anson County, NC, Mr. Lawhon was the son of the late Will Thomas and Laura Pinion Lawhon and a retired employee of Allison Mfg. Company. He was a member of SouthAlbemarleBaptistChurch and a veteran of the US Army during WWII. He was married to the late Catherine Mazelle Poplin Lawhon. Survivors include two sons: Jerry C. Lawhon and wife Terrie of Shelby, NC and Billy Lawhon and wife Gail of Albemarle, NC; one daughter: Myra L. Land and husband Robert of Albemarle, NC; eight grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. One sister, Minnie Kate Lawhon Brown, preceded him in death. The family would like to thank Carolyn Dunn, Lydia Jackson, Ray and Pat Locklear, and Lisa Wright for the excellent care that was given to their Dad.
