Rachel Edith Thompson Smith, age 93, of 200 McCurdy Avenue, Albemarle, NC passed away on Thursday, July 29th, 2010 at Stanly Manor Nursing Center in Albemarle, NC.  Her funeral will be at 3 PM on Sunday, August 1st, 2010 in Stanly Funeral Home's Chapel and her family will receive friends from 2 PM to 3 PM just prior to the hour of service.  Rev. Leslee Wray will officiate and burial will be in Prospect Baptist Church's Cemetery in Albemarle, NC. 

Mrs. Smith was born on November 5th, 1916 in Stanly County, NC to Ed and Rebecca Davis Thompson and was a retired employee of Wiscassett Mill Company.  She was a member of First Street United Methodist Church and the Pink Ladies of Stanly Memorial Hospital.  She was also an avid baker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Frank Smith and one daughter, Ann Gwyn.  She is survived by two grandchildren, Ryan Efird and Carmen Efird Chance both of Albemarle, NC; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
