Mrs. Rachel Jerleen Hathcock Bean, age 84, of 924 Efird Street, Albemarle, NC, passed away on Thursday, August 11th, 2011 at Stanly Regional Medical Center in Albemarle, NC.  Her family will receive friends at Stanly Funeral Home from 6 PM to 8 PM on Sunday evening and her funeral will be at 11 AM on Monday, August 15th, 2011 in Stanly Funeral Home's Chapel.  Rev. Donald Ray Johnson will officiate and burial will be in Stanly Gardens of Memory.

Born August 23rd, 1924 in Stanly County, NC, Mrs. Bean was the daughter of the late John Wesley and Nora Jane Smith Hathcock and was a homemaker.  She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and formerly worked part-time with the Stanly Board of Elections and the Stanly County Tax Office.  She was also a member of the National Federation of the Blind.

Mrs. Bean was preceded in death by her husband, Richard McNeal Bean; daughter, Shirley Renee Bean; and sister, Rena Estelle Morton.  She is survived by three sons: Ricky Wayne Bean and wife Rose of Norwood, NC, Johnny Steve Bean and wife Clair of Albemarle, NC, and Bobby Ray Bean and wife Mary of Falls Church, VA; niece, Kianne Kimmer of Albemarle, NC; nephew, Roger Morton of Albemarle, NC; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
