Paul Edward Bowers, Sr., age 71, of 36901 Reba Drive, Albemarle, NC, passed away on Monday, July 12, 2010 at Carolinas Medical Center - NorthEast in Concord, NC. His family will receive friends at Stanly Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 6 PM to 9 PM and his funeral will be at 2 PM on Thursday, July 15th, 2010 at Union Grove Baptist Church in Albemarle, NC. Rev. Lee Church will officiate and burial will be in Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Masonic Graveside Rites conducted by the Stanly Lodge #348.
Born November 26th, 1938 in Stanly County, NC, Mr. Bowers was the son of the late Paul Henry and Virginia Kimrey Bowers and a 1957 Graduate of Aquadale High School. He was a retired employee of ALCOA, a member of Union Grove Baptist Church, and a member of Stanly Lodge #348. He also was a former County Commissioner from 1978-1982 and 1990-1994, a 32nd Degree Mason, a Shriner, and a member of the Scottish Rite. He was a Deacon and a member of the Board of Trustee. He also served on the Board of Elections for Stanly County.
He is survived by his wife, Reba Starnes Bowers; son, Paul Edward Bowers, Jr. and wife Tammy of Albemarle, NC; daughter, Amanda Bowers Thompson and husband Todd of Albemarle, NC; one brother, Donnie Bowers of Charlotte, NC; and five grandchildren: Alex Thompson, Erin Thompson, Hillary Bowers, Heather Amarol, and Peyton Bowers.
