Mr. Mitchell Smith Simpson, age 63, of Mt. Pleasant, NC, passed away on Thursday, December 8th, 2011 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Salisbury, NC.  His family will receive friends on Sunday evening at Stanly Funeral Home from 6 PM to 8 PM and his funeral will be at 2 PM on Monday, December 12th, 2011 in Stanly Funeral Home's Chapel.  Pastor Woodrow  Frick will officiate and burial will be in Fairview Memorial Park.

Born December 5th, 1948 in Stanly County, NC, Mr. Simpson was the son of the late Leland Hathcock Simpson and Grace Smith Simpson.  He was an employee of Southeast Promotions and a member of New Bethel Lutheran Church in Richfield, NC.  He was also a Veteran of the US Navy and a member of VFW and AMVETS.

He is survived by his wife, Gayzelle Smith Simpson; two grandchildren, Thomas Munford, III and Ashley Elizabeth Munford; and one great-grandchild, Katherine Ellen Munford.  He was preceded in death by one daughter, Ellen Hinson Munford; and one brother.
