Michael Wayne Griffin, age 39, of 307 Snotherly Street, Albemarle, NC, passed away on Monday, June 13th, 2011 at Stanly Regional Medical Center in Albemarle, NC. His family will receive friends at Stanly Funeral Home on Saturday evening from 6 PM to 8 PM and at other times they will receive friends at his home. His funeral will be at 2 PM on Sunday, June 19th, 2011, in Stanly Funeral Home's Chapel and burial will be in Norview Gardens in Norwood, NC. Curtis Parker will officiate.
Born December 5th, 1971 in Stanly County, NC, Mr. Griffin was the son of Deloris Regina Nowling Almond of Rockingham, NC and the late Samuel Lee Griffin. He was an employee of Badcock Furniture and B&G Taxi. He was of the Baptist fath, an arm wrestler, and a member of the NC Armsports Team for many years. He place 5th at Nationals in Iowa in 2004. He placed 1st at the Get A Grip Tournament 2009 in Albemarle, N.C Super Heavyweight Division. He never knew a stranger and had no "friends" because he considered them all to be family.
He is survived by his son, Justin Lee Griffin of the home; daughter, Jessica Ann Napier and husband Timothy of Wilmington, NC; two sisters, Christy Leigh Wright of Kentucky and Regina Nicole Culley of Rockingham, NC. Also surviving is his girlfriend, Heather Hall of Wadesboro, N.C.; former wife, Angel Corbin; several aunts; uncles; cousins; 5 nephews; 3 nieces; close family friends, the Harrison family; and his Arm Wrestling Family.
