Lowell Edward Miller, 74, of 955 U.S. 52 N., New London, passed away on Friday, Dec. 18, 2009 at his home. His funeral will be at 1 pm Dec. 21 at Prospect Baptist Church, where he was a member. The Rev. Stoney Benfield and The Rev. Darrell Huneycutt will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Stanly County DAV Ritual Team. The family will receive friends at Stanly Funeral Home from 4-6 pm Sunday.
Born Sept. 26, 1935 in Stanly County, he was a son of the late Charlie and Mary Treece Miller. Educated at New London High School, he was a retired employee of Collins and Aikman Corp. and was also owner and operator of Clover Creek Farms. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force - 938th ADC in Othello, Washington. He was also an Eagle Scout.
He is survived by his wife, Christine Goodman Miller of the home; two daughters, Toni Miller Buchanan and husband, Danny, of New London and Tina Miller Hahn and husband, Rick, of Kings Mountain; a brother, Horace Miller of New London; a sister, Jessie (Diddle) Broughton of New London; and two grandchildren, Brandon and fiancee Sue and Danielle Mauldin and husband, Matt. Also surviving is a faithful companion, "P.R.," the family's Miniature Dachshund.
