Dr. Lorraine N. Carpenter, Ph.D., 65, of Albemarle, North Carolina, went to be with the Lord, January 26, 2011.
Ms. Carpenter was born in 1945, in Albemarle, NC, the daughter of the late Regina and Benton Carpenter.
Ms. Carpenter received her undergraduate and master’s degree from UNC-G and her Doctor of Philosophy in education from Ohio State University. She was President of the UNC-G University Choir. She was Soprano Soloist throughout Eastern United States with UNC-G choir and chorals; Soloist also with Salisbury Symphony Orchestra, Tampa Bay Orchestra, and Tampa Oratorio Society. She was most recently a member of the Stanly County Chorale. Some of her most fulfilled years were spent teaching music.
She was a member of the Oakboro Civitan Club. She recently retired from American Airlines after 16 years of service.
She is survived by her brothers, Harvey Carpenter and his wife Julia Ann, Earl Carpenter and his wife Lina, Jerry Carpenter and his wife Juanita.

Ms. Carpenter’s family will receive friends Sunday, January 30 from 2-3 pm at Stanly Funeral Home. The Memorial Service will follow at 3 pm in their chapel. She will be buried at Smith Grove Primitive Baptist Church in Oakboro.
