Leah Gabriel Clayton, 91, of Albemarle, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, in Stanly Regional Medical Center, Albemarle.  Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 9, in Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery, Albemarle.  The family will receive friends following the graveside service in the Prospect Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.

Born July 21, 1918, in Madison County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late William Sylvester and Nannie Winters Gabriel and was a former employee of Wiscassett Hosiery Mill in Albemarle.  She also worked as a sitter with individuals in their homes.  She was a member of Non Denominational Meeting.  She was married to the late Albert Willie Clayton who preceded her in death on Feb. 9, 1960. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Gabriel; two sisters, Mildred Newell and Pauline Gabriel; and one granddaughter, Pamela Everhart.  She is survived by two sons, Dale Grant Clayton of Raleigh and Jerry Ferrel Clayton of Mooresville; three daughters, Bonnie Clayton Parker and Betty Clayton Barnes, both of New London, and Sylvia Clayton Everhart of Petersburg, Va.; 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
