Catherine Mazelle Poplin Lawhon, 84, of 100 Creek Ridge Circle, Albemarle, NC, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2009 at Stanly Manor Nursing Center in Albemarle, NC. Her "Celebration of Life" will be at 4:00 PM on Sunday, April 19th, 2009 at South Albemarle Baptist Church in Albemarle, NC. The family will receive friends following the service in the South Albemarle Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Rev. Jesse Dennis will officiate.
Born on August 8th, 1924 in Stanly County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Jim Tom and Florence Carpenter Poplin. She was a homemaker and former employee of Ware-Knitters. She was a member of South Albemarle Baptist Church and loved to walk and garden.
She was the wife of Willie D. Lawhon, Sr.; mother to Jerry C. Lawhon of Shelby, NC, Billy Lawhon of Albemarle, NC, and Myra L. Land of Albemarle, NC.; sister to Eloise P. Furr, Juanita P. Hopkins, Evelyn P. Blake, and Tommie P. Eudy all of Albemarle, NC; grandmother to eight grandchildren; and great-grandmother to ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Apalonia Harwood of Albemarle, NC.
