Mrs. Kathleen Thorpe Arey, age 82, of 37254 Barnhardt Road, Albemarle, NC, passed away on Tuesday, July 26th, 2011 at Stanly Regional Medical Center in Albemarle, NC.  Her funeral will be at 11 AM on Friday, July 29th, 2011 in Stanly Funeral Home's Chapel and her family will receive friends from 9:45 AM to 10:45 AM just prior to the hour of service.  Rev. Joe Smith will officiate and burial will be in Stanly Gardens of Memory.  At other times the family will be at the home of her daughter, Kathy Staton, 905 Elaine Drive, Albemarle, NC. 

Born October 9th, 1928 in Stanly County, NC, Mrs. Arey was the daughter of the late Walter and Mary Gatton Thorpe and was a homemaker.  She was of the Baptist Faith and an avid reader.

Mrs. Arey was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Calvin Arey, and daughter, Janice Arey Eudy.  She is survived by one son, John Phillip Arey and wife Pat of Charlotte, NC; two daughters, Pamela Kay Arey of Albemarle, NC and Kathy Arey Staton and husband George of Albemarle, NC; one brother, Robert Thorpe of Norwood, NC; one sister, Helen Newton of Norwood, NC; five grandchildren: Angela Arey, Robert Eudy, Sandra Burleson, Brian Staton, and Jacob Staton; and five great-grandchildren.
