Julia Lucille Mabry Griffin, age 87, passed away on January 30, 2010 at the Stanly Regional Medical Center in Albemarle, North Carolina. She was born March 19, 1922 in Stanly County to the late John Wesley Mabry and Bessie Mae Kimrey Mabry Lowder. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theron Wilson Griffin. Survivors include her two sons, three grand children and two great-grand children: Charles Wilson Griffin and wife Gloria of Winston-Salem, NC, granddaughter Beverly Griffin Mosley and husband Steve, and great-grandson Patrick Nickolas Mosley all of Towson, MD, granddaughter Kimberly Anne Griffin of Winston-Salem, NC; and, James Edward Griffin and wife Sandy, grandson Jason Daniel Griffin and wife Sarah, and great-granddaughter Karlie Griffin all of New London.
 
        She loved sewing and needlecrafts and created many beautiful items that often won first place ribbons at local and state fairs. For more than thirty years, she served as an instructor for Stanly Community College where she taught knitting, crocheting, needlepoint and other stitchery.
 
        Julia was a long time member of Union Chapel United Methodist Church before moving to New London in the late fifties. She joined New London United Methodist Church where she was an active member. She sang in the church choir for many years as well as with the Singing Americans.
 
        The funeral service will be held at the Stanly Funeral Home of Albemarle, NC, at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3, 2010. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow the service in the cemetery at Union Chapel United Methodist Church located on highway 52 south of Albemarle, NC.
 
        In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New London United Methodist Church, Union Chapel United Methodist Church, the American Cancer Society, or Hospice of Stanly County.
