James Palmer Kirk, age 91, of 524 Cobble Stone Circle in Bloomingdale, GA, passed away on Friday, May 28, 2010 at Morningside Assisted Living in Concord, NC. His funeral will be at 3 PM on Sunday, May 30, 2010 in Stanly Funeral Home's Chapel and his family will receive friends from 2 PM to 3 PM prior to the hour of the service. Rev. Tom Byerly and Rev. Tom Kirk will officiate and burial will be in Palmerville Cemetery, New London, NC.
Born February 2, 1919 in Farmville, NC, Mr. Kirk was the son of the late Jones Ezra and Cora Eddins Kirk and was a graduate of Wake Forest University and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was a retired Southern Baptist Missionary with 37 years of service and a member of Morningstar Baptist Church. He was a gentle warrior, loved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxie Crawford Kirk, and one brother, Edgar Kirk. He is survived by two sons: Rev. Tom Kirk of England and Robert Kirk of Concord, NC; two daughters: Margaret Byerly of Bloomingdale, GA and Elizabeth Robinson of Greentown, Indiana; one brother: Dr. Daniel E. Kirk of New London, NC; eleven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
