Jack Van Smith, 86, of 31324 Garrett Way, Albemarle, NC, passed away on Sunday, May 3rd, 2009 at Stanly Regional Hospital.  The family will receive friends at Stanly Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 5th, from 6 PM to 8 PM and his funeral will be on Wednesday, May 6th, 2 PM, at First Assembly of God.  Rev. Bob Gruver, Rev. George Mullen, Rev. Farrell Shimpock, and Rev. Harry Harward will officiate and burial will be in Stanly Gardens of Memory with full military graveside rites conducted by the Stanly County DAV Ritual Team. 

Born July 8, 1922 in Stanly County, he was the son of the late King David and Lilly Forte Smith.  He was a retired employee of E.J. Snyder, a member of First Assembly of God, a Veteran of the US Army, and a member of the DAV.  He is survived by two sons, Lyndell Smith of Norwood and Timothy L. Smith of New London; a daughter, Teresa S. Graham of Albemarle; two brothers, Howard K. Smith of Albemarle and Spence Smith of Colonial Heights, VA; three sisters, Dorothy Howell and Opal Dennis of Albemarle and Harvey Anne Laton of Sanford, NC; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
