Harlan Eugene Burris, 83, of 309 Graham Street, Albemarle, NC, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2009 at Carolinas Medical Center – NorthEast, Concord, NC. His family will receive friends at Stanly Funeral Home on Saturday Evening from 4 PM to 6 PM and his funeral will be at 2 PM on Sunday, August 23, 2009 at the Albemarle Wesleyan Church. Pastor Doug Beadle and Rev. Gary Waisner will officiate and burial will be in Stanly Gardens of Memory with full military rites by the Stanly County DAV Ritual Team.

Born July 23, 1926 in Stanly County, NC, Mr. Burris was the son of the late Henry and Agnes Talbert Burris and was a retired employee of Service Distributing Co. He was a member of Albemarle Wesleyan Church and a veteran of the US Navy during World War II. He loved gardening, fruit trees, grape vines, fishing, his grandchildren, family and church time.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Scott Burris; one son: Michael E. Burris and wife Toni of Hickory, NC; three stepsons: Greg Burleson of Badin, NC, Phil Burleson of Badin, and Jeff Burleson and wife Jenny of Albemarle, NC; one brother: Jimmy Burris of High Point, NC; three sisters: Edith Eudy of Norwood, Jean Easley of Albemarle, and Brenda Poplin of Norwood, NC; two grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild. His first wife, Virginia Harris Burris, preceded him in death.
