Grace Elizabeth Holyfield Nelms, age 94 of 504 Pee Dee Avenue, Albemarle, NC, passed away on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 in Stanly Regional Medical Center in Albemarle, NC. Her funeral will be at 5 PM on Friday, March 19, 2010 at Porter United Methodist Church and her family will receive friends at the Porter United Methodist Church from 4 PM to 4:45 PM just prior to the hour of the service. Pastor Gene Moore will officiate and burial will be in Norview Gardens in Norwood, NC.
Born March 13, 1916 in Pueblo, Colorado, she was the daughter of the late James Holyfield and Frances Doty Holyfield and was a homemaker and former employee of Federal Pacific Electric. She was the oldest member of Porter United Methodist Church, a former active member of the Sweet Adelines in Indiana, a member and past President of the PTA in Indiana, and a former active member of Mother’s Chorus in Indiana.
She was married to the late Thomas C. Nelms. Survivors include two sons: Kenneth Nelms of Indiana and John Nelms of the home; one daughter: Anita N. Keziah of the home; eighteen grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. One son, Tommy Nelms, and one daughter, Laura Nelms Ussery, preceded her in death.
